If you’re looking to stay in a genuine piece of Mallorcan heritage, Finca Can Amat is a superbly grandiose country retreat brimming with traditional character. While much of the 17th-century property has undergone a thorough update, the main house still maintains heaps of old-school, aristocratic charm. Its location in Mallorca’s lush central plains also puts you in the rural heartland of the island, while also being easy driving distance from some of the south coast’s most stunning beaches.
Sleeping up to 18 guests, it’s a great pick for big groups or extended families, with plenty of sunny terraces and shaded chill-out areas to easily accommodate everyone. There’s everything from a swish 75-square-metre swimming pool with a poolside casita to a big-but-cosy lounge with a crackling log fire for cooler evenings. Visitors can enjoy the estate’s 150 acres of elegantly landscaped gardens, olive groves and orchards, too. There’s even a small chapel onsite.
The house has nine double bedrooms in all, from the master bedroom up to attic rooms, all with plenty of space and double or twin beds. Decor leans towards the traditional in style with the likes of antique furnishings and terracotta tile floors, though with a fresh updated feel. Each has an ensuite bathroom, too, while some have lovely little balconies with views over the scenic surrounding countryside.
If you love to cook, you’ll find two fully-equipped kitchens with everything you need to prepare everything from snacks to banquets – including a 16-seater dining table perfect for just that. One of the kitchens is catering-standard so ideal if you’re planning on hiring a private chef or hosting events. When you fancy eating out, you’ll find lots of authentic restaurants in the surrounding villages of Porreres and Vilafranca de Bonany, or the town of Felanitx.
