A glance at Portocolom
Portocolom
Portocolom is a picturesque fishing village in the district of Felanitx, located on the east coast of Mallorca. This beautiful coast village preserves that rural and unique charm of the Mediterranean coast. Besides being a beautiful fishing village, it is also a marina that offers the opportunity to eat some of the best seafood on the island. Here you can admire the colourful houses where the boats are kept and the typical Mallorcan boats called llaüt – an old white fisherman's boat with a lateen sail. Feel free to contact us if you want to experience a ride on this boat.
Portocolom was named after Christopher Columbus who was (allegedly) born here. Trade was booming, exporting wine abroad until the end of the 19th century when the phylloxera plague destroyed most of the Mallorcan vineyards.
Activities and Beaches
The main beach in Portocolom is the blue flag Cala Marcal which enjoys sandy shallow waters that make it very family-friendly. Portocolom has other small sandy beaches, but if you want more variety you can head to the nearby Portocristo or Cala D'Or.
This coast is full of hidden coves with turquoise waters. Also, if you want to go shopping, discover the town of Manacor with boutiques and restaurants. Tennis fans can find the famous Rafa Nadal Academy here too, where you can play or train where the Mallorcan tennis player does. Although Portocolom is a very quiet place, visitors enjoy a variety of activities to make the most of their holidays. For example, you can find a sailing school, Escola Nàutica s’Algar, equipped with the most modern tech and resources to teach sailing and help students get their boating licence.
Golf lovers can enjoy awesome views of Portocolom and this wonderful coastline from the impressive 18-hole Vall d’Or Golf set on a hill facing the sea. The clubhouse is home to mAxime, a very good café-restaurant that’s also open to non-golfers.
